FAQs

What is a coach? How is a coach different from a therapist?

As a Certified Professional Coach, I focus on helping you with your own goals that you choose to work on. I can guide you with different tools and techniques to help you accomplish your goals in a more efficient way, using various behavior modification techniques. It’s about seeing practical, tangible results in your life. I am qualified to help you work through blocks and fears as well, using specific coaching techniques. Coaches are known to be more action-oriented, focusing on helping you build a better present and future. Whereas, a therapist discusses past life events and its impact on your current life.

Therapists work with people who are experiencing mental illness or other deep-seated issues in their life. Therapists are typically recommended if you are not functioning in everyday life including: not eating normally, not sleeping normally, unable to concentrate combined with experiencing a mental illness such as major depression, extreme anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, trauma, or addiction.

Experiencing a mental illness on its own does not necessarily disqualify you from participating in coaching, but some coaches may choose to refer you to a therapist in those cases, especially if you are unable to function in your day-to-day life. For my particular coaching practice I can partner with your therapist and act as supplemental support along the way. I will assess the situation on a case-by-case basis and determine whether you may be better served by a therapist, and if you may not be quite ready yet for coaching. In that case, I would be happy to refer you to several therapists who may be able to assist you on your path to healing.
